With this first post I would like to provide you with information on a very interesting topic; the NANO – HYDROXYLAPATITE.
Each tooth cleansing in our clinic is completed with the sealing of the enamel with this concentrate of active ingredients.

1. What is Hydroxylapatite?
Hydroxylapatite is a natural mineral extracted from sea shells. Our bones consist of 60% of this, and our tooth enamel consists of 97% of this element.
It repairs microscopic defects on the enamel surface as well as on the sub-surface, thereby restoring the mineral density, minimising enamel translucency and reversing the progression of caries.
Hydroxilapatite is natural, non-toxic, and compatible with the human body due to its poli-poroose molecular structure. It is easily absorbed and recycled and in no way dangerous.
2. Since when do we know about Nano-Hydroxylapatite?
In 1970, Japanese researchers from Sangi developed a enamel-repairing toothpaste for NASA, ensuring that astronauts were able to prevent melt loss in a non gravitational environment.
Since then until the 80´s there have been numerous studies and field trials from universities in Japan. The effectiveness of the Nano-Hydroxylapatite technology has been confirmed and was officially recognized by the Japanese government in 1993 as a medical protection against caries.
During this time Sangi acquired widespread patents on his nano-Hyrdroxylapatite dental technology. Sangi continued to work on improving and expanding the applications of the technology and succeeded in reducing the average nano particles from a three-digit to a two-digit nanometer size in 2003 and increased the enamel restoration capability. (1 nanometer = one millionth of a millimeter)
3. Is PrevDent toothpaste safe for children? At what age?
PrevDent toothpaste is safe for children from the age of 2 years. It contains no fluoride and nano-hydroxylapatite is non-toxic and thus safe.
4. Does the Prevdent toothpaste help maintain healthy and white teeth?
Prevdent toothpaste reduces sensibility, brightens the natural teeth, promotes healthy dental care and prevents plaque and tooth decay.
5. How does nano-Hydroxylapatite differ from fluoride?
The difference between the two elements is that fluoride converts the chemical structure of the enamel from its natural hydroxylapatite structure to fluorapatite. PrevDent Toothpaste restores the natural hydroxylapatite in the enamel, which is lost by ablation, acids, etc.
6. How long does Prevdent toothpaste need tob e efectful ?
The nano-Hyrdoxylapatite acts immediately. There are reports of people who have not felt sensitivities after a second application of PD toothpaste. After a week, the teeth begin to feel smoother. The longer the PD toothpaste is applied, the better the results.
7. Must toothpaste contain fluoride?
Nano-Hyrdroxylapatite is a much more effective substance for the remineralisation and strengthening of the enamel in comparison to fluoride. It is not corrosive and can be used in higher concentration than fluoride for better and faster results.
8. Is there an advantage in using the PrevDent toothpaste even if the sensiblities no longer exist? (Eg after a 4-week use)
Yes, there are long-term benefits when using PD toothpaste. In addition to eliminating tooth sensitivity, the teeth become stronger, shiny, and brighter as a result of daily use.
9. How does the toothpaste restore the enamel canals?
PrevDent toothpaste consists of nano-hydroxylapatite, which is less than 10nm, smaller than the dentinal tubules. It can thus rebuild dental layers from the inside out.
10. Is it recommended to switch between toothpastes with fluoride and the toothpaste?
It is recommended to use the PD toothpaste as a daily toothpaste and to reduce the use of fluoride, which only protects superficially. Fluoromolecules are too large and can not penetrate the dental dibules as nano-hydroxatite can. Consequently, they could make the penetration of the nano-hydroxyplatatite more difficult.
Scientific studies show that nano-HAP:
– reduces Caries bacteria and repairs cavities created by caries
– it remineralizes the tooth enamel, sealing tooth surfaces, after whitening
– it prevents the formation of new discolorations
